December at MHCC is full of opportunities -- to hear amazing music, to enjoy a warm community, to "do unto others." We'll be sharing the joy of the season with you through the photos on this page, but we'd be glad if you joined us in person! Our newsletter, TheCourier spells it all out in detail. Take a few minutes to see what we have planned, then join us! Click here
One of our favorite celebrations at the Highlands is Hanging of the Greens Sunday. We decorate the sanctuary, make ornaments and decorate the tree. This is the Sunday that we bring our Giving Tree gifts for children and families in need, and the children place the gifts under the tree.
Did you get to participate in Melrose's Home for the Holidays? It's a deservedly popular city celebration and we at the Highlands look forward to it every year. This year we had miniature golf and cookie decorating for the children, hot chocolate and mulled cider in Fellowship Hall, and a chance to confer with Melrose resident and children's literature expert, Cathie Mercier from Simmons, about books for gift-giving to children. She recommended her choice of the best picturebooks of 2013, as well as classic holiday titles. Copies of these lists are available at these two links. The faces of the children tell you how enjoyable the day was!
