August is here and the harvest has begun. I picked my first home-grown tomato this week. There is little in life better than a tomato just off the vine! I have found my community garden to be a source of Sabbath renewal. There was dirt to dig in, bugs to battle, drought to struggle against, and finally, all the hard work is bearing fruit. I find the garden mimics my spiritual life. It takes Sabbath time--time apart from our daily lives. It requires our attention for what can seem like a hopeless struggle but the fruit does appear. God constantly offers up abundance.
I hope that you've found some summer Sabbath time. For many of us, the pandemic changed our summer plans to be with family and friends. I pray that in the beauty of these days, you've found time for renewal. I will be on vacation August 1-16.
I so look forward to being together in worship on September 13th. For the remainder of the summer, we continue with several ways for us to gather in community.
- "Coffee Hour"- Thursday nights at 8 P.M. This is a relaxed time to get together and share in community.
- Morning prayer- Morning prayer will resume on August 18th.
The prayer team-is always available. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with prayer requests for you, your family or your friends.
