Middle School Youth Group - The Middle School Youth Group, led by Jim Dunne, offers two to three varied functions every month. There is a youth dance one Friday of the month (see below). During any month – in addition to the dance – there are other meeting opportunities. All middle school aged youth in the Melrose community are welcome to join.
Dance for Middle School Aged Youth – For over 35 years the Highlands Church has hosted a community dance for youth. We understand it to be one of our vital outreach programs into the community. The dance sometimes draws as many as 400 youth in a safe social environment. Adult chaperones are always welcome – please contact the church office if you would like to volunteer.
Dances are generally on the third Friday and start at 7:00 p.m. and end promptly at 10:00 p.m. Admission $ 7.00
Senior Youth Group (SYG)
- This is a Christian youth fellowship presently led by John Everett
and Liz Faughnan and open to all congregational youth and non-member
community youth in grades 9 - 12. The Senior Youth Group meets for
fellowship, fun, and service projects, and they assist at the dances
for middle school aged youth. All high school youth in the Melrose
community are welcome to join.
Last year members of this group engaged a mission trip to New Orleans
and plans to do so again this summer, 2007. Contact the church for more
information on this opportunity.
ADULT
Study - Regular opportunities for discovery of the Bible are offered on Monday mornings @ 11:00 a.m. and first and third Thursday evenings @ 7:00 p.m. In addition, occasional studies are offered on a short term basis. For instance, for the season of Lent we engaged a study entitled “Chocolate for Lent.” It was based on the movie “Chocolat” and included chocolate, of course. We believe learning together should be fun as well as engaging!
COMMUNITY
Lunch Bunch – A group that samples the cuisine in numerous area restaurants. They meet every second Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. Call the church office for locations.
Women’s Guild – A service and social organization of women that includes friends from the community. The Guild sponsors numerous programs and designates monies to mission and service organizations.
